Iconic furniture design company Knoll debut a line of bags that fuses contemporary design with functional materials. Designer Karen Stone states that the inspiration behind the new collection is the brand’s rich heritage and history of “experimenting with new materials and product categories, uwo owl beginning with Florence Knoll’s unexpected use of simple menswear textiles in the 1940s” for their furniture. Bag snobs and design fanatics alike will see this sense of exploration reflected in the enthusiastic use of color for the bags — leafy green, persimmon orange and azure are among the standouts — and materials like FilzFelt felt and Spinneybeck leather. (The German-milled FilzFelt consciously aims to sustain and support traditional craftsmen and what remains of the cottage industry.)
Knoll’s first bag line includes unisex uwo owl totes, a convertible uwo owl backpack/tote, a duffle bag, and a weekender. Each has a smartly pared-down design and a sturdy, tactile wool felt body. You can shop the full collection at Knoll .
