As I commented earlier, the most important parameter to keep track of when talking about cargo ships known as the Baltic Dry Index. This index has been around for 25 years and is an index refekterar cost of transporting dry bulk (coal, iron ore, etc.) over the oceans. boxspring More precisely, the index is based on daily charter rates quoted boxspring by shipping boxspring brokers in London for an average boxspring of representative boxspring routes. As some of you probably know, this index has been very volatile recently and during the crisis, saw its worst fall from the top of the 99%! A thought just: this index has been a long time been used as a measure of global economic activity. This was based on the supply of cargo ships was relatively constant over time (for instance, when it takes a long time to manufacture a ship). The index was a measure of demand for commodities. The recent overproduction of cargo ships, however, might change that. In other words, although the BDI will give us the price of transporting dry bulk so will no longer be this price to fully reflect demand pressures in the economy. A low index, eg be a sign of too many vessels rather than large demand for transpoter. boxspring Worth thinking about?
I would just like to add one thing that you have not addressed in your two BDI-related items that I feel are important, that the BDI is not subject to speculation, but can constitute a "real" price; you do not order volume on a ship about two weeks in the hope of being able to sell it more expensive to someone else before then. Now before you admittedly criticism this real price and says it may be incorrect over time anyway, and the criticism is interesting and there is absolutely boxspring unfounded. But ... If we assume that what you say is correct, then we can express it as we have a (disposable) structural break in the index in the financial crisis and the index after this will give lower values than in the past because it has been a fundamental change in the underlying equilibrium price (of shipping dry goods). This should not be a problem if we choose to take into account the change or choose to only use index data after the financial crisis. As I see it, we have a bias (down) in price compared to before the financial crisis, the capacity is constant (few ships taken off the market, get to come), the new equilibrium price in the market will therefore be lower to reflect on the capacity but the index is still a sense if you look at the change in after the break as the increased demand will lead to higher shipping prices (albeit much lower in absolute terms than in the past). I reserve the right to be out in deep water here :). March 12, 2010 04:36
Editor: yes threads I. all the time, then 18 years old. and still as fun. However, low frequency (definitely not day-trader that is). have not time for that. YBF: I do not really hang with here. sorry :)'ll think more about it. My thought was just that there seems to be many new vessels on the market boxspring (ie, the capacity is not constant as you type), and it should make the BDI can not be interpreted as demand pressures. it is of course still be used as a price signal in terms of shipments. especially if one just watching pornographic post crisis data so you can safely use it as both absolute and relative measurements. or? Environmental Hazard "Such a victory to ...
The German Green Party have really got full marks. Now it has, through its patient work even managed to get the civil government so scared of nuclear power that it has decided on a quick settlement. Yet is not the details set but will it be that they fear we are heading towards a situation of greatly increased carbon emissions from our southern neighbor. In a study German BDI commissioned one can see the impact michael schoeffling of the reversal may be in the energy mix. A quick abandonment of nuclear power will lead to more use of coal, lignite and natural gas. In particular, the first two are real emission rogues. Prior to Fukushima, it looked like we would see progressively michael schoeffling lower carbon emissions in Germany. The new forecasts suggesting instead an increase. The difference in 2018 is 63 million tons of carbon dioxide. It is no small effect, but corresponds to the entire Swedish emissions.
It is remarkable how disparate nuclear policy looks to be in Germany. In the rest of the world rolls nuclear groove on as usual. Obviously, new aspects to be taken into safety, but it is by no means so that nuclear power is dead as part said after Fukushima. For our part, nuclear power may be a competitive advantage. Our opinion is more nuclear please facilitating michael schoeffling new investment. When Germany goes against high electricity prices and large imports needs so we can stand there ready. But it obviously requires that we do something and that we get to shoots.
Yep, in Sweden we just need to hope that we get a meltdown michael schoeffling that stops our power plants wreaking disasters that would ruin the Swedish economy. And Germany is perhaps more concerned with their safety than being lazy and not looking alternative to a dangerous source of energy that should have stayed where it came from. What "other countries" are doing is probably right uninteresting for them. Slamming it in Germany so slamming it there. Not in Sweden, or anywhere else where we can take a nuclear accident because we have so clean environment.
I think more on the German FDP Minister (Liberal Party) detailed descriptions of the problem which are discussed in "environmental hazard" and that not only takes the BDI's arguments, without accounting for many reputable utrdedningar and research that has been going on for years . BDI are also very influenced by self-interest, because it concerns billions in profits for the 4 "Big" energy suppliers. I think not a single michael schoeffling German deny ... not even the BDI. All that can be read. It is not at all "Green Party ... etc" as kuppat. I do not think it's serious argument: To Sweden as the largest nuclear dependent state (that is, right?) argue this is no excuse to ignore what other research institutes has concluded. Germany will probably keep their emissions and so on. A report constraints should follow the entire development michael schoeffling linge and presented each year ... see what happens. Zeitschrift für Medizin und Psychosomatische Psychotherapie, 58 (3), 299-316. Retrieved from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22987495
This has happened, morgana build we have previously written about the Munich Psychotherapy Study, an ambitious study comparing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy (PDT) and psychoanalysis (PA) in depression.
The study is kvasirandomiserad, patients were randomized to PDT and psychoanalysis, while the CBT group for cost reasons not randomized. The study has also striven for good external validity, and therefore, among other wide exclusion. This has led to the group of patients treated was relatively congested - almost a third had a concurrent personality disorder and 48 percent had recurrent depression.
One year after treatment, 91 percent of patients who have attended psychoanalysis still free from depression, while the same was true of 76 percent of patients receiving PDT and 42 percent of patients who received CBT.
It has also taken an interest in additional to the effects of time. None of the treatments morgana build were limited but the therapists in all groups were instructed to allow treatments to be as long as they saw fit for each specific patient.
When the study was completed, there were no significant differences in scores on the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) - however, it was seen that the group who received CBT were significantly more who still met the diagnostic morgana build criteria for depression. One year after treatment, 91 percent of patients who have attended psychoanalysis still free from depression, while the same was true of 76 percent of patients receiving PDT and 42 percent of patients who received CBT.
Additionally, you could see when you looked at measures of interpersonal functioning and structural change that psychoanalysis led to by far the most changes, with PDT in the middle, and CBT minimum. More about the first reports from the Munich Psychotherapy Study can be read here.
Monitoring While the treatment was completed and one year follow up, therefore there was no significant difference between groups in scores on the BDI, seen it for another two years, a significant difference between the group that received CBT and group with psychoanalysis, with a magnitude of effect of d = 0.67 ( p <.01) between groups. As a single morgana build group, the patients who went into psychoanalysis continued to improve on the BDI right up to the three-year follow-up - we look is a long so-called sleeper effect! PDT group deteriorated slightly while the group who received CBT deteriorated the most.
Regarding GSI (Global Severity Index) was already in previous measurements, a significant difference between the group that received CBT and group with psychoanalysis. morgana build The difference morgana build has fotsatt to increase and is now even greater. However, there was no longer any significant difference between PDT and CBT on this measure now.
Proportion of patients in remission at three-year follow-up was 83 percent in psycho-analysis group, 68% in the PDT group and 52% in the CBT group. Differences were here again significant between PA and CBT, but not between PDT and CBT.
The authors believe that one explanation for the results is to be found in the therapy dose. Lambert and Ogles (2004) found that more than 50 sessions are necessary for more than 75% of patients, that they should completely get rid of their symptoms.

Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is one of the world's most followed indicators of the state of the global economy. It is an index that shows how much it costs to ship raw materials by sea. BDI is known as a leading bathroom suites indicator early shows where the economy is headed. For bulk raw materials (ores, etc.) are the basis of economic activity. Zero Hedge notes today that the BDI the past month have fallen back to near its lowest level in a year. It is also about the steepest decline since the fall of 2008. Summer 2008 was the BDI up at record highs above 10000, then quickly collapse bathroom suites down to 1000 levels. In 2009, as a slight recovery, but apparently it has slowed precariously in 2010. This suggests that the "green shoots" in the global economy bathroom suites looks set to wither. As the recovery bathroom suites of the economy as the Riksbank sees when they raised rates the other day risk being transitory nature. Yesterday also latest jobs data from the U.S., which shows that there were fewer new jobs than expected in the private bathroom suites sector. Certainly looks the official unemployment rate in the U.S. to be falling to 9.5%, but that is an illusion caused by participation in the workforce declines. Many have therefore given up the job search entirely and is no longer available for work. At the same time reduces bathroom suites industrial orders in the U.S. sooner than expected. All these figures confirm that we will most likely face a double dip in the global economy. [Other blogs shipping, transport, unemployment, usa, industrial production]
Flute-> One thing that should be considered bathroom suites when looking at the prices of the index such as BDI, steel prices, pulp etc are "produktionskapitciteten" (in this case the number of boats.) During the period bathroom suites 2005-2008 was built on the Earth's revolutions bathroom suites huge number of ships and far in excess of scrapping and we are now in a position to clear excess capacity on the ship and I put a tia on the ocean freight does not become a sector that hangs up in the future upturns, due to over-capacity, but they will have "permanent" recession (within limits of course) Major similarities can be drawn to the paper production in 1999-2001 when there was a hefty boom for our paper mills. But it was also true that it started much new capacity and thus was then paper an activity that went down in the economy 2002-2003 but then had no good at all in the economic boom of 2005-2008. It is only now that it is once again in equilibrium, eg manufacturing bathroom suites of pulp and consequently so now hangs pulp prices with the economy bathroom suites again. Reply Delete
Stockman: Sure there are a lot of excess capacity on cargo ships. But even though a lot of ships are mothballed now falling freight rates again. What is interesting now in terms of the BDI is that it went up in 2009, but now seems to turn down again, suggesting that demand bathroom suites is decreasing. Reply Delete
"Mothballed", well ... I think the people who own a freighter would carry goods with it. Until then it is scrapped. Flag BDI can obviously signal the decline in konjunktuen (which probably should be now that many government interventions pulled bot) But a falling bathroom suites / low BDI can also signalisera bathroom suites shipyards and their customers despite the economic upturn last year and then produced new boats that are now coming to market where the demand exists. Supply and demand. Reply Delete
Though it seems to be way premature to draw any conclusion .... Freight rates have fallen about as much in October 2009 and February 2010 ... There seems to be a certain bathroom suites periodicity .... Even sawtooth. Reply Delete
If this could be that we are entering a double dip (or something worse) then the well central bathroom suites bank to start lowering interest rates again (if they managed to raise slightly). Feel like floating interest is to focus on even further ahead, or what do you say? Reply Delete
Anonymous 2010-07-05 11:05: Though the case has not been as fast in the preceding sawteeth. Alex: The interest rate is hard to predict right now. Just because the Riksbank may be forced to cut the repo rate again does not mean that mortgage rates are falling. The spread between the repo rate and the interest rates on mortgage bonds may increase if they start to be perceived as riskier. In addition, there are differences between long and short rates. Expect that things can change in unpredictable ways. Reply Delete

I have continued to try to put myself in the shipping industry because I think I see that it is an industry that went on his knees for a while now. Now is not the industry is far from uniform and there's gardner white various segments such as eg dry cargo, tanker gardner white and container but I think I still have seen some major common features. One is where the money and the growth is coming from. Broadly, so it hangs together with the global economic recession. gardner white One measure of that, and that shipping seems to correlate quite well, any of the various "Baltic gardner white index" example The Baltic Dry Index, BDI. An index based on such factors the demand for sea transport globally. Approximately 80-90% of world trade is channeled via the sea as the BDI is usually taken as a good indicator of how the economy looks. 2003-2008 was a very good year for the world economy and where the BDI peaked in early 2008 at nearly 12,000. The financial crisis was then BDI crashing down to about 700 by the end of 2008. Subsequently, the "trotted on," with a small recovery and reverse the downward again. Below is a summary of the approximate trend the past four years.
Apparently it does not look rosy when the BDI is at ground level. In order to increase revenue needs (for the sector as a whole is seen) economy / BDI to rebound. The latest major upswing gardner white happened in 2003 when the current recession was broken and the economic growth shot off upwards. gardner white Not least because of China's boom that took off then. 2003-2008 was the golden year for the shipping industry. Not least also dependent on Chinese growth was not expected and the percentage of available tonnage was limited. This created a great demand and freight rates soared. It takes namely over at least two years for a ship to be finished so that way you may see "ketchup effect" where supply and demand can not be matched directly. This is also one of the problems gardner white with the current situation. The supply of ships is greater than the demand which has led freight rates to fall to lows. Vessels ordered gardner white during the boom years has come out now to completely different conditions. Admittedly so scrapping older vessels continuously. A normal depreciation gardner white period appears to be 25 years and sure enough you see in the annual reports that ships reaches 25-30 years of age go to "recycling". Unfortunately, the proportion of tonnage that goes to scrap not so great. gardner white The fleet is now relatively modern. If we look at the segment tankers so it seems only slightly more than 1/10 of the vessels older than 20 years. The majority are under 10 years old. There are, however, orders for new ships even now, but it is because you want to receive fuel efficient vessels. The reason is soaring fuel costs. Looking at the cost bitten so it differs of course from company to company, but I have also tried where to paint the great features and the large cost bits by looking at several companies. An approximate cost for a seemingly hyffsatt well-run shipping gardner white company can look like this.
Depreciation and staff together make up more than half the cost item and is often quite fixed costs, gardner white interest and administrative expenses also it is. Often more than 10% of the total cost bitten even if the interest costs can amount to much more than that for some companies depending on their indebtedness. gardner white More than 40% cited skeppsdriftsskostnader gardner white of various types. There is a large cost bitten fuel, or "bunker cost" corresponding to the major variable cost bitten often over 20% of the total cost bitten. This development has not been benefitial for shipping companies. It has, despite the economic slowdown, have seen their fuel costs increase. gardner white The Bunker Index, BIX, is a good indicator for this cost. Below is the approximate trend of the past four years.
In sum, while the prospects for making money has deteriorated along with falling freight rates that have by far the largest variable cost increased. This, in an industry where the fixed costs, such as for example depreciation is relatively high. Not only that. In many cases they have been forced to additional write-downs of vessels invested in since the book value far exceeds the market. It should also be noted that in contrast to investment companies and other so no need to write down their assets automatically just because the market gardner white value falls, but it does this only if the future earning capacity is considered to have fallen for the assets, ie that one can not expect that vessels can earn that calculated. Some companies in Scandinavia has recognized impairment losses of approximately 1/8 of the carrying vessel value on the advice of ship brokers, but there are also data from other sources that some vessel values may be impaired by up to 40% of the book value. So what can we say about the future. What assumptions do I do? The whole ship capsize?
I make four adopt
